Duchess Meghan flies to the US last minute to support a friend

Duchess Meghan is the best support to her pals!

Serena Williams made it in to the semi-final at the US Open this week. So the Duchess of Sussex, one of her closest friends, got on a commercial flight from London to New York on Sept. 5 to see her play against Elina Svitolina , according to The Times.

The Times’s report says Meghan intends to stay the weekend to cheer her friend on. Since Serena is now in the final, which is scheduled for this Saturday, Meghan will be in the city to support her, too!

Meghan’s arrival in New York on Thursday meant she stayed up to 1 a.m. local time (6 a.m. in the UK!) just to see her friend play in the semis. She also travelled alone without Prince Harry or Archie Harrison, taking only her security team with her.

Meghan has been a huge source of support for Serena several times this summer. She turned out a Wimbledon twice to see her play. She had Duchess Kate and Pippa Middleton with her to the women’s singles final match so they could watch the tennis legend compete against Simona Halep. Unfortunately, Serena lost the match, but it must have been so good to see her friend there in the stands!

The duchess’ maternity leave officially ends next week, when she will head to her patronage Smart Works for the launch of the capsule collection she and designer friend Misha Nonoo have created with the partnership of Marks & Spencer, John Lewis and Jigsaw. On Sept. 22, she will travel to South Africa with Harry and Archie for a tour of that country. Harry will make solo trips to Botswana, Angola and Malawi before the tour ends in South Africa on Oct. 2.

We can’t wait to see Meghan back in action!
