Duchess Meghan makes surprise appearance at WE Day as Prince Harry gives impassioned speech to youth

The Duchess of Sussex made a surprise appearance at WE Day on Tuesday (March 5) alongside her husband, Prince Harry! Looking chic in a navy blue blazer, and black pants and t-shirt, Meghan joined the duke onstage as he gave an impassioned speech to attendees of the event, billed as "an unparalleled event bringing together A-list celebrities, inspiring speakers and world leaders, mixed with uplifting stories of change from real people." Though the duchess didn't speak, Harry wrapped up his time onstage by saying "I am with you and we are with you. Now get to work!"

Royal commentator Omid Scobie shared a full transcript of the speech on Twitter.

"To be amongst all of you progressive, motivated, open-minded, change-makers, is what gives me hope for the future," Harry started his speech at the event, which was started by Canadians Craig and Marc Kielburger in 1995. "You are the most engaged generation in history. You care about values, doing the right thing, and championing the causes that will shape your future."

Harry encouraged youth to work together to solve pressing issues, like climate change, even when they didn't agree on something or see eye-to-eye. “Try to remember that not everyone sees the world the way you do but that doesn’t mean they don’t care... It means you have the incredible opportunity to help reshape mindsets, to empower those around you to think outside the box, and to work with you — not against you — to find solutions."

He then gave attendees a to-do list of sorts, and encouraged them to be the change for our future. "Be braver. Be stronger. Be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Have less screen time, and more face to face time... Eliminate plastics. Conserve water. Protect wildlife and their unique habitat... Dare to be the greatest generation of all time."

Kensington Palace shared snapshots of he and Meghan's appearance online, including one of the pair applauding at the end of Harry's speech.

This isn't the first time Harry has made an appearance at the youth empowerment event. Back in 2017, he surprised those at the Canadian event by taking the stage to give a similarly rousing speech. “Today’s generation of young people is the most connected, most energized and most confident the planet has ever known. You know that differences of opinion of circumstance of race and religion are to be respected and celebrated,” he said, adding, “You all know that it’s great to like things on social media, but it’s more important to look up from our phones to get into our communities and to take real action, to stand up for what you believe in.”
