Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have just embarked on their first-ever royal tour, touching down in Sydney on Monday (Oct. 15), but the couple is simultaneously making a milestone journey in their personal lives: the road to first-time parenthood! The couple announced the exciting news just hours after arriving Down Under, and the duchess is believed to be just past her first trimester. As fans wait excitedly to see the loved-up couple tour four Commonwealth countries, they also wonder how the Sussexes will navigate Fiji and Tonga's moderate risk of the Zika virus, which is dangerous for pregnant women.
The parents-to-be have, of course, taken this into consideration and consulted their doctors to ensure that all is safe for the 37-year-old mom-to-be. HELLO!'s royal correspondent Emily Nash wrote, "For those asking, there is no change to the tour programme and the couple have taken medical advice about the Zika risk in the Pacific Islands."
Meghan will be skipping out on a few Fiji engagements, which was always the plan. Harry will make solo trips to the Fiji War Memorial and the Colo-i-Suva forest site in Suva, during which time Meghan will enjoy a morning tea at the British High Commissioner's residence as well as a trip to Suva Market to meet female vendors.
Harry and Meghan revealed her pregnancy in a statement from Kensington Palace on Monday (Oct. 15). "Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019. Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public." According to People, a source revealed that the former actress has had her 12-week ultrasound and is "feeling well."
Naturally, the couple's family is overjoyed. Meghan's mom Doria Ragland will become a first-time grandmother, and a Kensington Palace spokesman said that she "is very happy about this lovely news and is looking forward to welcoming her first grandchild." As for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Charles and Camilla, and the Queen and Prince Philip, the whole lot is "delighted" for the couple. The newlyweds reportedly told their royal side the news at Princess Eugenie's wedding this weekend, where Meghan donned a loose-fitting Givenchy coat dress (and raised a few eyebrows!) and had an animated (baby-related?) chat with Princess Anne.
