Serena Williams says she and Meghan are "relying on each other" recently

The power duo of Meghan Markle and Serena Williams have been giving BFFs across the globe major friendship inspiration ever since they first became pals back in 2010 at a Super Bowl party. And even as their lives diverge – with Meghan becoming a duchess and Serena continuing with her fruitful tennis career and motherhood – the two have been relying on each other for support. As of late, their close relationship has been more valuable than ever, Serena revealed in a recent interview.

While chatting with Australian news show The Project about her recent U.S. Open loss to tennis powerhouse Naomi Osaka, 20, the mother of one opened up about her incredible friendship with the Duchess of Sussex. “We were actually just texting each other this morning. We have known each other for a long time, but we really are relying on each other a lot recently,” the tennis star said.

Serena and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, also made stunning wedding guests on May 19 as they watched Prince Harry and Meghan exchange vows at St. George’s Chapel . “I felt like we were literally watching history. I feel like in a few years, when I look back at that moment, it’s just going to be so historic,” the 36-year-old gushed. “It’s gonna be something people never forget. The whole service was really wonderful and most of all, I just wanted to see my friend be happy and I think that’s what happened.”

But it’s not just Serena who shows up for Meghan – the duchess, who just turned 37, made sure to be there for her friend’s women’s final at Wimbledon this year. Cheering on her award-winning pal from the sidelines with her sister-in-law Duchess Kate, Meghan got visibly teary eyed while listening to her friend, who lost the women’s title, give an inspiring speech to the crowd. “It was such an amazing tournament for me. I was really hoping to get this far,” the seven-time Wimbledon champ said in an emotional moment. “It’s obviously disappointing, but I can’t be disappointed. I have so much to look forward to. I’m literally just getting started.”
