Prince Harry makes surprise appearance at WE Day!

Prince Harry made a surprise appearance at WE Day on Thursday (Sept 28), taking the stage to deliver a passionate speech about service and giving back. The crowd went wild when the royal appeared at the Air Canada Centre and listened intently as he explained to them the importance of living with optimism and positivity.

Harry has attended past WE Day events and is a strong supporter of the work the organization does around the world. This time around, Harry wanted to share the message and spirit of the Invictus Games, which have taken over the city of Toronto. Speaking to the service of the wounded athletes, the 33-year-old applauded the young people in the crowd for their own dedication to service.

“Today’s generation of young people is the most connected, most energized and most confident the planet has ever known. You know that differences of opinion of circumstance of race and religion are to be respected and celebrated,” he said, adding, “You all know that it’s great to like things on social media, but it’s more important to look up from our phones to get into our communities and to take real action, to stand up for what you believe in.”

This year, WE Day celebrated a decade of inspiring youth to promote change all over the world. The annual event—which young people must earn tickets to through community service—always includes performances by some of music’s hottest names. Entertaining the crowd this time around were Hedley, Vanessa Hudgens and Shawn Hook. Organizers and parcipiants were also celebrating the grand opening of the organizations'sfirst ever Global Learning Centre in the historic Corktown district of Toronto. It promises to be a hub for young thinkers and change makers to promote social innovation.
