Nature plays a starring role on the Golden Globes red carpet

The Golden Globe Awards gala is an evening of glamour, megawatt talent and hilarity, thanks to hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler - but with all the diamonds, designer duds and a gorgeous feast worthy of Hollywood's A-list, there was an unexpected guest on the red carpet: Mother Nature.

The Imitation Game nominee Keira Knightley covered her budding baby bump and one of her hands in a whimsical smattering of Chanel butterflies, complete with feather accents, while Homeland favourite Claire Danes slipped into an eye-catching Valentino gown with an intricate pattern composed completely from embroidered feathers.

Other feathered frocks? Julianne Moore's Givenchy haute couture number and Lupita N'yongo's floral and feathered Giambattista Valli gown.

And then there were the jewels! Mother to one-year-old Hazel, Emily Blunt, let her unique, oversized floral blue stone-accented diamond dazzlers by Neil Lane standout by pairing them with an updo and understated makeup.

Salma Hayek's nature-inspired accessories were twofold, from her diamond feather earrings to her floral hairpiece. And Naomi Watts wrapped a spectacular Bulgari snake around her neck, which husband Liev Schreiber took credit for positioning just so.

See which other brimming beauties brought Mother Nature along on the red carpet.
