The 35 best Golden Globes dresses ever

From glittering gowns to vibrant hues and head-turning trains, it’s never a dull moment on the Golden Globes red carpet.

Over the past 72 years, the glamorous gala has seen hundreds of actresses make their mark in the worlds of both film and fashion. Who could forget Basic Instinct star Sharon Stone’s dramatic thigh-high dress slit in 1995 or Angelina Jolie's super-sexy, curve-hugging Versace number in 2001?

The annual awards show even received a royal visit in 2004, as Sarah Ferguson, a.k.a. the Duchess of York, attended the Hollywood affair in a black lace gown paired with opera-length gloves.

Some of our favourite looks, however, are from more recent memory. Jennifer Lawrence became a Hollywood "It" girl seemingly overnight after she accepted her award for Best Actress in 2013 for her role in Silver Linings Playbook wearing a red Christian Dior gown – the first of many from her preferred designer. The actress would don Dior once more at the Academy Awards later that year, where she famously tripped on her skirts while walking up to receive her Oscar!

Then, of course, there was newcomer Lupita Nyong’o, who put herself on the fashion map when she showed up to the 2014 Golden Globes wearing a stunning red Ralph Lauren cape.

As a host of A-listers primp and preen for the Golden Globes awards ceremony this Sunday (Jan. 10), Hello! takes a look back at 35 of the best dresses in the prestigious film and television event's history.
