Shawn Mendes and Jimmy Fallon perform "Treat You Better" with classroom instruments

Shawn Mendes has had an incredible year, from performing at the Queen's birthday party to making Time's list of the 100 most influential people, but the Canadian star marked a new milestone on Monday night (Oct. 8) - performing "Treat You Better" exclusively with classroom instruments. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon segment, which has also hosted everyone from Adele and Ed Sheeran to Metallica, was definitely something to be grateful for on Canadian Thanksgiving!

The "In My Blood" singer played the spoons while members of The Roots tackled the xylophone, kazoo, bongos, ukulele and more. As always, Jimmy Fallon was totally on board to join Shawn in tackling those high notes. The new instrumentals definitely breathed some new life into the award-winning 2016 single!

Shawn appeared on The Tonight Show at the end of last month, where he revealed that a fan had inspired the cover art for his self-titled album. The 20-year-old also talked about performing with Justin Timberlake at the iHeartRadio Music Festival, where the "SexyBack" singer brought Shawn on stage for a surprise performance of "What Goes Around...Comes Around" as crowds lost their minds. Jimmy, naturally, became a bit territorial where his friend was concerned.

"We're actually pretty good friends now," the Toronto native said as Jimmy jokingly pretended not to hear him. "It was the coolest thing of my entire life right there." Jimmy then pulled up a photo from Justin's Instagram, showing Shawn performing with his idol. When asked if he follows Justin, the host teased, "I just hang out with him outside of 'fake' social media." Jimmy then asked Shawn if he and Justin have ever done bits together, to which he replied that they haven't. "He likes you," the 44-year-old said reluctantly, before quickly adding, "I mean, he likes other people too." As the audience giggled, the "Stitches singer had his mic drop moment, joking, "It's really rare for him to bring people on stage, so he must really like me."
