After months of speculation over unnamed “health issues,” Avril Lavigne has finally disclosed her mysterious illness. The Canadian signer has revealed that she’s been suffering from a severe case of Lyme disease, telling People magazine, “I thought I was dying.”

The songstress first realized something was amiss in October 2014, when she felt under the weather while hosting her 30th birthday bash in Las Vegas.

“I could barely eat, and when we went to the pool, I had to leave and go lie in bed," she tells the magazine. "My friends asked, 'What's wrong?' I didn't know."

"There were definitely times I couldn't shower for a full week because I could barely stand," says Avril. "It felt like having all your life sucked out of you."

Fans soon noticed that the singer had been quiet on her social media channels, with many tweeting out their concern. Avril replied to one via direct private message to say that she wasn't feeling well, leading to a surge of get well messages – which she admits she was "touched so deeply by.”

The star's illness came amid rumours that she had split from her 40-year-old Canadian rocker beau, however, the couple have since said that there is no truth to the reports.

"I really just want to enjoy life from here on out,” says Avril.
