The two-time Grammy winner is being recognized for his work with music technology, particularly for developing and promoting the Pono digital music player, which Neil says provides "the best sound you can get.”
"The simplest way to describe what we've accomplished is that we've liberated the music of the artist from the digital file and restored it to its original artistic quality — as it was in the studio," Neil wrote on his Facebook page of the Pono player, which is set for an early 2014 launch. "It has primal power."
Neil Young has enjoyed a lengthy career, but only won his first Grammy in 2010 for best art design on his Blu-ray box set Archives Vol 1. In 2011, he took home best rock song for "Angry World."
His latest honour will take place on Jan 21. 2014 at the 7th annual Producers & Engineers Wing event during Grammy week. Previous recipients include Jimmy Iovine and Quincy Jones.
