Style chameleon Rihanna's 20 best hair moments

Fresh off her eighth Grammy win (she took home a trophy for the song "Monster") and a hot collaboration with Kanye West and Sir Paul McCartney, Rihanna is back and ready to reclaim her crown as pop music’s fiercest female.

After selling more than 10 million albums between 2005 and 2012, the Bajan beauty enjoyed a couple of years off to relish in her extraordinary success before returning to the studio to work on her highly anticipated eighth studio album, R8 (due out later this year). Close friend and songwriter Ne-Yo (who penned the songs “Take a Bow” and “Unfaithful”) promises that Rihanna’s new album will be worth the wait, telling Official Charts, “I personally feel like when it comes out, people will forget about how long the wait was. What I’ve heard so far sounds unlike anything else!”

From the moment she signed with mentor Jay Z and Def Jam Recordings at the age of 16, Rihanna has made an inimitable mark on the music industry – and her edgy and fearless fashion and beauty sensibilities, especially when it comes to her ever-changing locks, have made her an icon. Rihanna’s ability to keep her look fresh and cool is reminiscent of another style chameleon who just happens to be one of the singer’s biggest inspirations. “I loved the way Madonna reinvented herself,” Rihanna has said. “She’s like an actress always playing a different role.”

From bobs to bangs and flame-hued tresses, Rihanna loves to experiment with lengths, textures and colours. “I have two main hair people I work with,” she tells Vogue, “They’re always with me. I’m like, ‘I’m bored! I want to change my hair!” And like most of the songs she releases, her new ‘do is usually a smash hit. To celebrate the star’s 27th birthday, Hello! looks back at 20 of Rihanna’s best hair moments.
