Take Five with Cheryl Hickey: My Best Beauty Tips

For years, viewers have trusted Cheryl Hickey to give them the insider scoop on pop culture news and now they can turn to her for beauty advice, too.

The down-to-earth TV personality has launched her own body and skincare brand called Ours by Cheryl Hickey (sold exclusively at Rexall), a paraben and silicone-free line that’s safe for use for the entire family.

“Part of my dream for this line is that it’s the first product that touches your baby in the hospital and that you can use it on your elders with their really delicate skin,” says Cheryl.

In fact, she turned to her husband Kevin Foley and their children Jaxson, 5, and one-year-old Nyla, for advice while developing the products. “I would put the cream on [my husband’s] hand because I wanted to know what a guy would think. Then my son was very vocal about the lotions,” she tells Hello! Canada. “My family and I were instrumental in testing [everything].”Cheryl also relied on the beauty tricks she’s picked up both on and off set.

Here, the down-to-earth TV personality shares the best advice she’s learned.

I went up 65-70 pounds with both of my children so when I became a parent, I changed a lot physically. The texture of my skin, the texture of my hair; everything changed. I had to find products that would work for me and at the time, I was frustrated so I went and bought coconut oil. I used a lot of that on my belly and my body.

I try and keep up with my sleep, I’m not going to lie. I think that speaks volumes when it comes to your beauty routine. I try to drink a ton of water. I wear Jane Iredale makeup, which is a natural brand. The thing about beauty and having an organic lifestyle is that you can’t be perfect all of the time; none of us are going to be. I try to walk the walk as much as I can.

On the weekends, I’ll put hydrating oil in the palm of my hands, put it all over my hair to get a bun like J.Lo. I get it really tight and then I slather the hydrating oil all over to give it that sheen. When I’m in a crunch, that’s what I do. Or, spritz a little bit of water and a tiny bit of hairspray on your hair, then put it in a French braid and sleep on it. You’ll have really beautiful waves when you wake up.

I keep the Ours by Cheryl Hickey Anything Balm in my purse at all times. After I have my studio makeup on, I put it [on] and it softens everything up. I think everybody wants to have that dewy glow. Use that on any flyaways, on the ends of your hair and on the apples of your cheeks. I’m addicted to this stuff. I’m giving it to the cameramen for their hands in the winter so that when they’re out in the cold, they can use it too.

I was a girly girl growing up. I think that it’s an expression of oneself, so my daughter can do whatever she wants. I hope she doesn’t repeat the really dark lip liner with the really light lipstick! I think we’ve all done that at one point. But I think the main things I’d want my daughter to know about beauty products are that [they] can be affordable, safe and healthy for your skin.
