Ryan Reynolds gave fans another glimpse of his latest Deadpool offering on Monday (Dec. 10), and homegrown band Nickelback is at the heart of it all. Bringing his signature sense of humour to a new trailer for Once Upon a Deadpool, a PG-13 reimagining of his wildly successful antihero sequel Deadpool 2, the Canadian star and actor Fred Savage get into a heated debate over the merits of Chad Kroeger's contentious band.
“I kinda prefer Marvel movies,” the former Wonder Years star says while sitting in a kids' single bed, as Deadpool holds a leather-bound copy of Once Upon a Deadpool. “We are Marvel,” the masked superhero retorts. “Yeah, but you’re Marvel licensed by Fox. It’s kinda like if the Beatles were produced by Nickelback. It’s music, but it sucks … They’re overproduced, formulaic ear garbage.”
"You think that makes you cool with the cool kids in school, Fred?" asks an exasperated Deadpool. "No, it just makes me right," Fred replies. In a bid to put an end to "Nickelback hating," Ryan's character then launches into a tirade of facts about the rock band. From their 50-million albums sold worldwide and position as the 11th best musical act of all time, six GRAMMY nominations, 12 Juno awards ("those count," he jokes), six Billboard Music awards and two American Music Awards.
"I gotta say, you were nicer as a kid," says Deadpool after Fred cautiously apologizes. The Friends from College star then makes the ultimate peace offering as he starts to quietly sing Nickelback's 2001 hit, "How You Remind Me," outstretching his hand for what culminates into a triumphant hand-holding sing-along.

Ryan's reimagining of his second Deadpool instalment comes just in time for the holidays, hitting theatres on Dec. 12. And if toning down the racy themes and language weren't enough, Blake Lively's husband is also wearing his heart on Deadpool's spandex sleeve. The father of two is donating $1 from every ticket sold in the US between Dec. 12 and 24 to Fudge Cancer (temporarily renamed from F**k Cancer.)
