Amanda Seyfried and Balthazar Getty to star in ‘Twin Peaks’ remake

We have some big news for Twin Peaks fans: is reporting that Balthazar Getty and Amanda Seyfried have landed major roles in Showtime’s revival of the series. There’s no word yet on who the Brothers & Sisters and Big Love stars will play, but word is creator David Lynch cast them himself.

Airing in the early ‘90s, the hugely popular show followed FBI special agent Dale Cooper as he investigated the murder of Twin Peaks’ homecoming queen, Laura Palmer. He goes on to expose dark details about the seemingly innocent town. Though only 30 episodes were broadcast, the show became a cult classic much in the same vein as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Veronica Mars, and it’s been referenced hundreds of times in music and on television shows like 30 Rock.

Kyle MacLachlan is set to reprise his role as a series lead, though he’s being tight lipped about what fans can expect from the revival. Back in August at the Television Critics Association summer tour, he said viewers “should be optimistic that the people [they] want [back] will be there, and then there will be some surprises in addition.” He added: “I’m very excited to return to the strange and wonderful world of Twin Peaks.”

David was originally pegged to direct after co-writing the new season, but the 69-year-old then bowed out before rejoining the series. Either way, he's also keeping details about the series under lock and key. A.V. Club reports that he’s asked people to stop sharing snaps from the Washington-based set. All he’s really confirmed is the update will air in 2016 to coincide with the original show’s 25th anniversary.
