Bringing some fun back to the red carpet, this year's crop of Emmys beauties rocked a parade of unconventional ensembles, from Tatiana Maslany's white tuxedo to January Jones's green jumpsuit and Kiernan Shipka's fun Dior getup. And while classic black and white gowns were still a staple, bold sequinned stripes were the look of choice for Jaime Alexander while Laverne Cox went for a teal Calvin Klein number that fit like a glove.
Heidi Klum, who told E! she spotted her Versace gown on the runway and had to have it, was a ray of sunshine. The intricate number mixed sheer panels with floral embroidery and one ruffled, chiffon bell sleeve. Sarah Paulson and Sarah Hyland both went for off-the-shoulder details in Prabal Gurung and Zac Posen, respectively. Scandal beauty and presenter Kerry Washington was a vision in a long-sleeved silver Marc Jacobs runway look (which just debuted at Marc's show last week!).
One playful fashionista, American Horror Story season five star Lady Gaga, traded her usual over-the-top sensibility for Old Hollywood glamour in a black gown with a flourish on the hip and sleek blond waves. "Dripping in diamonds," said Scream Queens star Emma Roberts of her equally retro look, a custom Jenny Packham gown with art deco jewels.
A very blond Elizabeth Moss, nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series, turned up the glitz in a bright fuschia gown, while fellow nominee Claire Danes dazzled in red-and-purple bejewelled Prada with chain details. Aubrey Plaza proved that black is anything but boring in a plunging, high-slit Alexandre Vauthier gown smattered with sparkles. And funny woman Tina Fey stuck with her favourite cut of late, a high neckline and cap sleeves in black and white.
