Michael Kors, the golden boy of New York Fashion Week

In the midst of fashion week, editors, models, celebrities and influencers took a break from the front row to celebrate Michael Kors and the launch of his new Gold Fragrance Collection. “I wanted to give women accessible luxury,” Michael told Hello! when we caught up with the designer on the gold carpet. “Nothing is more luxurious than gold and perfume is something every woman can buy and use in their daily routine.”

The three-piece collection includes fragrances inspired by white, yellow and rose gold, each with a unique blend to match a mood or vibe. “Picking a fragrance is like picking an outfit,” Michael says. “Sometimes you feel romantic and the [yellow] gold scent may appeal to you. Other times you want to feel a bit edgy and you wear a leather jacket with the white gold scent. But no matter what your mood, you should feel glamorous.”

Glamour was indeed the theme of the night. Celebrities Jaime King, Naomi Campbell and Hailee Steinfeld walked the golden carpet. Supermodels Alessandra Ambrosio and Kate Upton sipped champagne while notables like celebrity makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury and stylist-to-the-stars Cristina Ehrlich sampled canapés.

Then at around 11pm, Duran Duran took the stage at the top of the Standard Hotel in the swanky meatpacking district. Playing their iconic hits, including "Hungry Like The Wolf" and "Notorious," had the 300 guestsl crammed together, with Michael at the front of the mob dancing like a boss.

Three days later, the fashion crowd gathered to celebrate Michael Kors again – this time at Spring Studios in SoHo – for his “earthly elegance” runway presentation.

“To me, Michael is someone who always feels very sunny,” nail artist Jin Soon Choi tells Hello! backstage. “ He is so warm and full of life, that’s what this look is about.” Jin used one coat of Michael Kors’ nail lacquer in Hint with a matte topcoat to create a warm, dusty look.

Inspired by Michael’s idea of “Southwestern style in the 1890s” makeup artist Dick Page applied matte bronzer on the planes of the face for a natural, sun-kissed glow and hairstylist Orlando Pita created a windswept updo, fastened with a polished piece of Amber.

“Obviously the girls are glamorous and sun-kissed, it’s a Michael Kors show!” exclaimed Orlando while haphazardly arranging Lily Aldridge’s 'do. “No one does female luxury quite like Michael!”

Naomi Watts and Olivia Wilde joined Michael at his runway show.
