Diane Kruger’s best film-inspired fashion moments

When actress Diane Kruger steps onto the red carpet, cameras inadvertently roam in her direction. Long before she captured the attention of Hollywood with roles in Piano Teacher and Troy, Diane was a well-established model, starring in campaigns for Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior and Giorgio Armani. The German-born star, who turns 41 on July 15, has mastered the ability to merge her two passions, successfully channeling some of her most famous characters' style into fashion hits on the red carpet.

Diane curates her wardrobe by mixing and matching pieces from favourite brands like Alexander McQueen, Prada and Chanel. She even calls the Kaiser himself, Karl Lagerfeld, a close personal friend.

“I truly, genuinely like clothes,” Diane has told Glamour Magazine. “Making them is an art form, and wearing them is a form of self-expression. I find it very emotional because I can remember moments in my life — my mood, how I felt — through these clothes.”

Many of the natural beauty's best red carpet moments appear to have been motivated by moods she has felt playing a wide range of characters on screen. Her roles have let her showcase the diverse styles of a Grecian beauty, a French Queen and a stealthy spy, to name a few, which she then uses as inspiration for a parade of fashion wins.

From the big screen to stylish appearances, Diane Kruger has become a style icon in Hollywood. The fashion risk-taker doesn’t shy away from making bold statements and is a constant presence on best-dressed lists. In celebration of her birthday, we take a stroll down memory lane to revisit some of Diane’s best looks that were influenced by some of her most memorable on-screen performances.
