The World’s Most Expensive Shoes

There are expensive shoes, like those made by Jimmy Choo and Manolo Blahnik, and then there are expensive shoes. Case in point: the Blue Persian Salt ballet flats from Portuguese design house Josefinas, which will ring up a bill of nearly $5,000.

The company’s creator, Filipa Júlio, found inspiration for her luxurious shoes in the rareness and beauty of gemstones, and now they’ve been dubbed the “world’s most expensive” ballet flat. Embellished with unique pieces of jewellery that include rare gold and blue topazes, the royal-blue slides retail for 3,369€ (approximately $4,776 Canadian).

That may seem like a lot of money to spend on footwear, but it pales in comparison to some of the priciest pairs in recent history (some will cost you the same as a car or a house!)

Take Stuart Weitzman’s 2007 Diamond Dream stiletto. Designed for Dreamgirls‘ star Anika Noni Rose, the platinum-encased heels are studded with some 30 carats of diamonds (or 1,420 jewels) and retail for $500,000. The 42-year-old actress wore them for one night – to the 2007 Oscars.

But that’s just a quarter of the price tag for Nick Cannon’s Tom Ford stunners, $2 million slippers that would put Dorothy’s ruby reds to shame! According to Women’s Wear Daily, the shoe candy Nick wore for the finale of America’s Got Talent were modified by jeweller Jason Arasheben with more than 14,000 round diamonds and white gold.

Then there is the footwear made by House of Borgezie. The company of cordwainers created the world’s first solid-platinum stiletto. The shoes are said to take hundreds of hours to make, come with a 1,000-year guarantee and can be custom ordered for the jaw-dropping price of £70,000 (or $134,000 Canadian).

Sneakers can also cost a pretty penny. Outkast’s Antwan Patton snapped up a custom pair of diamond-encrusted Nikes that reportedly cost $50,000, and hundreds of folks jumped at the chance to buy the limited-edition Air Jordan 2, The Eminem Way I Am 313s. The kicks sold out within five minutes of hitting store shelves, and each pair retailed for $1,000.
