Ellen DeGeneres, Pink and other stars defend Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan

Ellen DeGeneres and Pink are among the stars who have joined Elton John in defending Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan against reporting that emerged about their trip to France earlier this month.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Archie Harrison, their three-month-old son, stayed at Elton and David Furnish’s home on the French Riviera. On Aug. 19, he tweeted he was “deeply distressed” by some of the reports he was seeing in the media.

The same day, Ellen said she doesn’t think Harry and Meghan deserve the things that are being written about them. She wrote about a secret meeting she had with the couple recently.

“Portia and I met Prince Harry and Meghan in England to talk about their work on wildlife conservation,” she tweeted. “They were the most down-to-earth, compassionate people. Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you’re trying to do is make the world better.”

Pink, who is known for the massive contributions she has also made to charities such as the Human Rights Campaign, Take Back the Night, UNICEF, the ONE Campaign to end poverty, Save the Children, Run for the Cure and Prince Charles’s Prince’s Trust, also defended Meghan and Harry, who Elton applauded for their philanthropic work.

“I’m happy to see people coming to the defence of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” Pink tweeted. “The way people treat her is the most public form of bullying I have seen in a while. It’s out of control. Let’s all be a bit kinder, huh? Let’s show our children that it’s cool to be kind.”

Harry’s good friend Ignacio “Nacho” Figueras, who he knows through polo and recently connected with him at the annual Sentebale charity polo match, also spoke out in the couple’s defence.

“I also have the privilege of spending time with this [sic] 2 great human being,” he wrote in a comment on Elton’s Instagram. “I say privilege not only because of their status but because of the kind of people they are.

“They are the most humble and kind people that I know. And who they are should allow them to be even more inspiring to all of us.”

Nacho went on to say he feels the media are “trying to find problems” where there aren’t any.

“I will defend them and what they do and who they are for as long as I live,” he continued. “They are a treasure in today’s society and we should be taking care of them and feeling inspired by them. I know I do. H & M, We have your back, please be patient and do not change a thing.”

On Aug. 19, Elton tweeted that he paid for a private jet to bring the family of three to France, and said he ensured the Sussexes’s journey was made carbon neutral by making a donation to the Carbon Footprint. Harry and Meghan, who are environmentalists, received some criticism in the press for taking the jet, which Elton spoke out against in his tweets. He evoked the late Princess Diana while doing so.

“I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death,” he wrote, saying the reports made him “deeply distressed.”

“After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home,” he continued. “To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight.”

Elton went on to urge media outlets to “cease these relentless and untrue” reports.

Meghan, Harry and Archie were also reported to have flown to Ibiza for a holiday to celebrate Meghan’s 38 th birthday earlier this month. Now that they’re back in the UK, they are expected to head to Balmoral to spend some time with the Queen, who has been enjoying her summer holiday at the Scottish Highlands estate.

We’ll next see Archie with his parents when the family heads to South Africa on royal tour this October. Harry is also expected to make separate trips to Botswana, Angola and Malawi.
