Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin showed the world how to “consciously uncouple,” and now they’ve taken the concept to the next level by recoupling as friends for a beach date with their new respective partners, Brad Falchuk and Dakota Johnson.
The quartet was spotted lounging around and enjoying some quality beach time in the Hamptons on Monday. Gwyneth looked relaxed in a grey bikini while Brad donned matching swim trunks; Chris and Dakota kept their look casual by wearing T-shirts.
It’s become almost commonplace to see the foursome breaking relationship rules and working hard to spend time together for the sake of Gwyneth and Chris’s children, Apple, 15, and Moses, 13.
There were rumours earlier this year that Chris and Dakota had broken up, earlier this summer, and it looks like Gwyneth managed to get them to reconcile, according to reports.
“Gwyneth is the one who pushed them to do it,” a source told Us Weekly.
This week’s beach outing isn’t the first time Gwyneth and Dakota have spent time together, either. The two were spotted chatting at a party in April, the publication reports.
“Gwyneth is happy if Chris is happy,” the source reportedly said. “She only wants the best for him.”
While visiting the Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2018, the Goop founder said: “[Chris is] really like my brother, we’re very familial. It’s nice, it’s great.”
When the two broke up in 2015, Gwyneth noted their goal was always to maintain a familial unit.
“Divorce is terrible, it was very painful, it was really hard,” she explained when she announced their decision. “We really genuinely wanted our kids to be as unscathed as possible. We thought if we could really maintain the family even though we weren’t a couple that was kind of the goal so that’s what we’ve tried to do.”
Gwyneth and Brad are set to move in together after almost a year of spending only a few weeknights together each month. The two married last year.
“Married life has been really good. We took a year to let everybody [in the family] take it in and let the dust settle. And now we’re moving in together this month,” Gwyneth told InStyle earlier in August. “I adore my husband. He’s brilliant and deeply kind. I feel like he’s a real equal, too. And he pushes me in the best ways. I really like being married. It’s fun.
