Céline Dion closes the curtain on her Las Vegas residency with epic final show

Céline Dion ended a major chapter of her life on Saturday (June 8) evening and opened the door on a new beginning. The Canadian pop superstar bid farewell to Las Vegas with the final show of her 16-year residency there, and it was an emotional affair.

The mom of three opened with “The Power of Love,” according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. It was her 1,141 st show at the Caesars’ Colosseum on the Vegas Strip, where she’s played to nearly 4 million people since her first gig there in 2003. The Strip was even lit up with fireworks in Céline’s honour on Saturday night!

“I’m supposed to ask how everybody is doing tonight, but you already answered that many times,” Céline said from the stage, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I am very excited, but also I am quite emotional tonight.”

After her opening number, Céline showed the audience a video her family had created that also included Las Vegas drag performers and an Elvis impersonator, the newspaper reported. In the clip, the Dion family’s vehicle breaks down, and another vehicle carrying the drag queens pulls over to stop her. The car is later seen with a bumper sticker that reads, “Celine Courage Tour.”

The show also featured a moving tribute to Céline’s late husband, René Angélil, who passed away from cancer in 2016.

“This is our final show in this beautiful Colosseum, and it’s kind of strange,” the five-time Grammy Award winner and 20-time Juno Award winner said during the show, the publication reports.

“When they started to put it together I was… oof, I don’t know. I thought I misunderstood something, and I was going to be here for three months or something. But it has been an incredible 16 years.”

Of course, Céline is all class, and true to that, she presented all of her band members with Boucheron watches that are worth about US$6,000 for all of their efforts during her Vegas residency, the newspaper reports.

Céline’s Courage tour kicks off in Quebec City in September before heading around the world. It’s in support of an album of the same name, which will be released in November.
