Kelly Clarkson teared up saying friend Carrie Underwood's honesty about miscarriages is 'so important'

Kelly Clarkson was moved to tears as she praised her friend Carrie Underwood, who recently revealed that on the road to her current pregnancy she'd suffered three miscarriages. “I’m so happy for her,” she gushed to Entertainment Tonight at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas. She also said just how meaningful it is for her fellow American Idol champ to be open about her experience.

“I didn’t know a lot of the situations that were going on behind the scenes, and I have a lot of friends that have gone through that several times as well,” said the "Stronger" singer, who is mom to four-year-old River and two-year-old Remington, and stepmom to 16-year-old Savannah and 11-year-old Seth. She added that what the country star is doing in sharing her pregnancy journey is a really cool thing.

"I was emailing her and I said, 'It’s so important that you talk about it. I know you don’t have to because it’s a hard thing to do, but it makes women that feel inferior, or feel like something’s wrong with them, it makes them feel comfortable, and that people go through it.'" Getting visibly teary, the 36-year-old joked, "Now you're making me cry before I perform!" before conceding that "It's very easy, I cry easily."

Carrie, 35, revealed on CBS Sunday Morning last week that she'd faced three miscarriages in the past two years as she and husband Mike Fisher tried to give their three-year-old son Isaiah a little sibling. The "Cry Pretty" singer leaned into her faith to help ease the pain as she dealt with two losses in 2017 and another in early 2018, reminding herself that she's already lucky to have her family and career.

But she couldn't help but feel angry, finally facing a breaking point while cuddling Isaiah one night, saying, “Why on Earth do I keep getting pregnant if I can’t have a kid? Like, what is this? Shut the door. Like, do something. Either shut the door or let me have a kid.” She felt like she had actually told God how she felt, and then came the good news. “That was like a Saturday — and the Monday I went to the doctor to confirm another miscarriage. And they told me everything was great!”

The pregnant star recently stepped out with her family to accept her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where little Isaiah definitely stole the show! Carrie showed off her growing bump in a red belted trench coat, looking happier than ever as she prepares for this new chapter in her life - with caring friends like Kelly rooting for her every step of the way.
