The 2014 Scotiabank Giller Prize gala was a star-studded affair, befitting of the prestigious literary prize now in its 21st year. An impressive roster of celebrity presenters included Yannick Bisson, Kim Coates, Naomi Klein, Deepa Mehta, Jessica Paré and David Usher, who introduced the shortlisted authors and presented video profiles highlighting their nominated books. Sean Michaels took the top prize of $100,000 for his book, Us Conductors, published by Random House Canada. The glitterati came out in droves for the ever-popular event.

As per instruction, patrons at the recent DX brouhaha rose up, dressed down and partied from 8:00 until very, very, very late. It was no surprise as Frank Toskan, the trailblazing co-founder of MAC Cosmetics, was the DXI 2014 Awardee. After an intimate cocktail soiree, VIPS joined hundreds of revelers for an epic “vogue off” between top Toronto and New York voguers! A posse of pretty young things who had saved all their shekels to attend the event then surrounded Toskan and were visibly thrilled to meet their idol. Cue …tears and selfies. A huge shout-out to visionary Rui Amaral, who transformed the DX with help from installations by Castor Design and artists Jeremy Jansen and Jesse Harris. It was a night we won’t soon forget!

Melissa Austria, owner of too-cool-for-school menswear store Got Style, opened after hours for a special kind of event. Along with Maple Leafs heartthrob Joffrey Lupul, special guests got the first peek at the Sully Wong x GOTSTYLE limited Edition Canadian forces Tribute Sneaker. How fitting that this all went down on Remembrance Day. A portion of the sales on the fab footwear and camo tees will go to True Patriot Love, in support of military families.
