Diary of the Week: Luminocity, Baeumler and Waterkeeper

It was over to the Ritz Carlton Toronto where Bryan and Sarah Baeumler hosted dozens of high-profile Canadians and celebrities for an evening of cocktails, a gourmet dinner and interactive silent auction. The star-studded crowd kicked it up a notch, as one by one they took to the stage to sing karaoke, much to the delight of several hundred guests who were throwing several thousands of dollars their way! The Baeumler Family Foundation Gala, with presenting sponsor Lowe's Canada, is dedicated to raising funds to support children and family advocacy.

The Palais Royale set the stunning scene for the Waterkeeper Gala, which attracted leading lights from the worlds of art, business, and entertainment. It was an off-the-charts evening co-hosted by Canadian icons Edward Burtynsky and Gord Downie. Patrons enjoyed the lakeside setting along with the fine art on offer, inspiring performances and delectable local food and wine. The Waterkeeper Alliance raises funds to promote swimmable, drinkable, fishable water.

What a spectacular setting for this year's Luminocity fete, the Luminato Festival's annual celebration of its founding supporters to toast the upcoming festivals that will soon take over Toronto. This year's event was hosted by Toronto arts philanthropists and owners of Next Pathway Inc., Chetan and Clara Mathur, at their sprawling Forest Hill home. Patrons were wowed with a poolside performance by emerging singer songwriter Liz Coyles.
