The Glam Bride: Beauty secrets and 6 must-have products

You’re never seen without sky-high heels and crimson lipstick, even first thing on a Monday morning. When glamour is the name of your beauty game, take your inspiration from bombshell bride-to-be Sofia Vergara, whose fiancé, Joe Manganiello, proposed last Christmas with a diamond ring (almost) as impressive as the Magic Mike star’s abs.

“Pick one feature and focus on it,” says Lori Taylor Davis, global lead artist for Smashbox Cosmetics. “You want to look finished, but not overly done, you don’t want to be a makeup monster on your wedding day.” Matte red lips and a wash of shimmering eye shadow is a tasteful, look-at-me approach for your wedding day. To create kiss-worthy lips that won’t smear, use a lip liner in the same shade as your lipstick to first define and then fill the lip area. Carefully apply lipstick with a brush, then blot off colour with a tissue for a lasting stain and lightly press a finishing power into lips to set the colour.

Celebrity hair and makeup artist Cody Alain recommends taking cues for hair from screen legends. “I always love Old Hollywood bombshell hairstyles,” he says. “There’s nothing more alluring than a beautiful set of Veronica Lake waves.”

The key to mastering sculpted waves is time and patience (best for advanced stylers, pre-mimosas!). “Before you curl hair, prep strands with a setting lotion and a mist of firm-hold hairspray to ensure bouncy waves,” says Cody. This style is best for brides who forgo a veil, but you can always add an extra touch of sparkle to your ’do with a bejewelled hair clip or comb for a retro glam look. Cody also recommends creating a deep part with hair pulled to one side for added drama that elongates your neck and highlights those glittering earrings.
