In 1951, a little Prince Charles charmed royals fans with his adorable carriage ride at Trooping the Colour. The Prince of Wales was accompanied by Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother. He would turn three that November!

The 1953 Trooping the Colour was very poignant because it was the Queen’s first Trooping the Colour after her coronation. Her Majesty and Prince Philip rode on horseback at the occasion in their military dress. The young monarch saluted officers in the military parade. Queen Elizabeth II was crowned on June 2, 1953 at Westminster Abbey.

Princess Diana was expecting Prince William at Trooping the Colour on June 12, 1982. The mother looked radiant in an emerald green smocked dress and matching hat. It was her second appearance. She attended the year before, just over a month prior to her wedding with Charles.

Another iconic Trooping the Colour moment was when William rode with Diana and the Queen Mother in 1987. The soon-to-be-five-year-old coordinated with his grandmother’s teal and white outfit, thanks to his dapper powder blue suit! The event took place on June 13 and William had his birthday on June 21. He looked absolutely adorable.

Hindsight makes 2001 a bittersweet moment because it was the year the Queen Mother stepped out to the festivities for what would be the final time. She rode to the event with grandson Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex for the June 16 event. The Queen Mother passed away on March 30, 2002 at the age of 101.

Kate made her debut at Trooping the Colour in 2011 as a newlywed. The Duchess of Cambridge had just wed Prince William on April 29. She wore a white Alexander McQueen coat for the milestone moment. Fittingly, the British brand also designed her wedding gown.

Fans might not have seen Prince George on the balcony with many members of the Royal Family in 2015, but everyone fondly remembers seeing the toddler watching the festivities from a window at Buckingham Palace with his nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo. The Cambridges’ eldest son playfully stuck his tongue out to the crowds and grabbed the window frame!

The Queen’s 90th birthday year in 2016 was filled with many milestone moments, including Trooping the Colour on June 11. The monarch was not to be missed in an electric green coat and hat. The moment was marked with a parade of more than 1,600 soldiers and 300 horses. Princess Charlotte also appeared on the balcony with her family for the first time during the momentous occasion. She and big brother George were totally enthralled by the planes flying overhead.

In 2018, Duchess Meghan attended Trooping the Colour for the first time. She and Prince Harry had just married on May 19, 2018 and the beaming newlyweds made one of their first appearances as a married couple at Trooping the Colour. The former Suits actress wore a soft pink Carolina Herrera dress and a coordinating wide-brimmed hat by Philip Treacy.

Prince Louis made his debut at Trooping the Colour in 2019. Duchess Kate and Prince William’s youngest son was so sweet at the event. We first caught a glimpse of the youngster as he peered out the window with big sister Charlotte. When it came time to pose on the balcony with many members of the Royal Family, Kate held Louis in her arms.
