Now you see them, now you don’t!
Eagle-eyed royal fans were quick to notice a change to Duchess Kate’s appearance between her arrival at the the Queen’s annual Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace on Dec. 18 and her departure. When she exited the annual party that featured many of the monarch’s immediate and extended Royal Family members, she was no longer wearing her pearly earrings!
While royal watchers didn’t get a full look at the Duchess of Cambridge’s outfit, it was still clear she was brimming with festive spirit as she arrived at the traditional lunch with Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte. (Prince William and Prince George arrived separately in another car.) The duchess donned a jolly tartan dress with contrasting white collar thought to be by Emilia Wickstead. The frock was striking, but there was no missing her ornate pearly studs visible beneath her shiny waves.
Later photos of the Royal Family show all the Cambridges exiting the venue together, and Kate’s earrings are nowhere to be seen.
Hopefully she didn’t lose one! The consensus among royal fans seems to be the jewellery was uncomfortable and/or the baubles may have been heavy, so she simply took them out of her ears. It is something to which fans can definitely relate!
The Queen’s Christmas lunch is an annual tradition that takes place before the Royal Family leaves for Sandringham to celebrate Christmas. Prince Harry, Duchess Meghan and Archie did not attend because they are still on their extended break.
The Sussexes will also not attend Christmas at Sandringham this year because their plans are to spend the holiday with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland. It is not known whether they will do so in the United States, where they reportedly spent American Thanksgiving, or at home at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.
Kate also captivated fans with her jewellery at the Diplomatic Corps reception at Buckingham Palace on Dec. 11. She donned the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara, along with a new diamond ring, earrings and the Queen’s Nizam of Hyderabad necklace.
