Happy fifth birthday to Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques! The Monaco royals celebrated on Dec. 10 by sending a special message to their grandma. It was also a treat for fans because it marks the first time we get to hear the royal twins speak!
Princess Charlene, the twins’ mother, took to Instagram to share a video of the adorable pair. She captioned it, “Birthday Message for Grandma” likely in reference to her mother, Lynette Humberstone Wittstock.
In the clip, Jacques and Gabriella are bundled up in jackets and dressed in party hats. And they both have party horns!
The video begins with the twins saying “It’s my birthday!” After a brief pause, Gabriella adds, “I miss you. I love you!”
The royal twins speak entirely in English, although Monaco’s official language is French.
The video appears to be shot by Prince Albert, the royal twins’ father, because he can be heard laughing off camera, according to People.
Last week, the Monaco royals unveiled a new family portrait captured by palace photographer Eric Mathon. It went on sale on Dec. 4 in the principality’s souvenir shops and profits will be donated to humanitarian work.
Charlene also shared a series of heartwarming school photos of the children on her Instagram page on Nov. 4. The three pictures feature the twins together and separately, and both of them are wearing spiffy white polo shirts. The joint photo features Jacques supportively placing his arm around his sister’s shoulder and stomach as she holds his hands. In their separate second and third snaps, each child stares confidently into the camera.
