It was speculated the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would go stateside during their six-week break from their royal duties to celebrate the holiday, which fell on Nov. 28, with Duchess Meghan's mom, Doria Ragland.
Both royal correspondent Omid Scobie and ITV News royal producer Lizzie Robinson say the Sussexes are in the United States right now.
They discussed the details of the “long-time trip to the US” on The HeirPod Podcast.
“The Sussexes are away, they're on their break right up until Christmas,” Omid revealed. “They celebrated Thanksgiving privately with close family, which is lovely.”
While it’s unclear which family members were involved, many have speculated they dined with Doria. It must have been sweet for the Duchess of Sussex to see her mother and for Doria to see her grandson. After all, it was milestone moment for all involved because it was baby Archie’s first Thanksgiving!
While Harry and Meghan are on a break from their royal duties, they took the time to personally wish their fans a happy Thanksgiving on social media, taking to their Sussex Royal Instagram account to do just that last week.
The busy royals’ extended break also means they will not attend the NATO leaders’ reception at Buckingham Palace with the Queen on Dec. 3.
The couple’s Thanksgiving celebrations this year are quite different from last year — and not just because they now have a son. In 2018, it is thought Meghan and Harry marked her first Thanksgiving as a royal privately in England. The day before the holiday, she cooked a meal with the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen.
In 2017, the former actress was reportedly able to celebrate American Thanksgiving with her mother. They must have had very sweet news to share with Doria, since she Harry announced their engagement just days later on Nov. 27, 2017.
