Everything is better in threes, especially when it comes to iconic Hollywood stars! Meryl Streep, Ariana Grande and Nicole Kidman are teaming up for Ryan Murphy’s latest project, a musical movie called Prom. Can you say #GirlPower?
The news first broke on Tuesday (June 25) when Deadline reported the incredible trio would be also joined by Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key, James Corden and Andrew Rannells. The feature film is set to be adapted from the Tony-nominated stage musical The Prom, which tells the queer-themed story of four Broadway stars traveling to the fictional conservative town of Edgewater, Indiana.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the movie will be released in 2020 and filming will begin in December. Meryl, 70, is set to play Dee Dee Allen, while James will play Barry Glickman along with Nicole and Andrew as Broadway staples Angie Dickinson and Trent Oliver, respectively.
Of course, pop sensation Ariana has been billed to produce the film’s soundtrack with her manager, Scooter Braun, and Ryan himself. The “Breathin’” singer will portray Alyssa, a popular student, while rapper and actress Awkwafina will play publicist Ms. Sheldon and Michael fills the roll of Principal Hawkins, Meryl’s love interest.
Oscar-winning star Meryl is currently starring in season two of the hit HBO series Big Little Lies, in which she plays a mother tortured by the mysterious murder of her son.
